Green Flag Award

The Green Flag Award is a national standard given to recognise high quality open spaces. Southampton currently (2009) has four green flag parks but Hinkler Green Park would be the first open space in an area of deprivation to achieve this coveted award.

The Friends of Hinkler Green Group have been working hard to  develop the green into a quality suburban park and to attract the investment needed for this. An initial speculative application in 2008 was made to determine how much work would be needed to improve the park to Green Flag standard. A surge of activity was then undertaken towards the 2009 application to hopefully secure the award or at least lay good foundations for a 2010 success.
