What is Hinkler Green Park Like?
You can see from this aerial view that Hinkler Green Park is quite like a village green with its play facilities, trees and shrubs and large areas of grass. The aim is to transform it into an open space which has much more of a park feel about it.

Long term residents of Thornhill really value Hinkler Green Park as this quote suggests:
“I loved walking to the Green to play with my friends and sometimes our family would have picnics on the grass. It seemed much sunnier in those days and everyone looked after their local green”.
Young people are still very well provided for, but the Green doesn’t cater so well for families, dog walkers, cyclists, disabled and older people. The success of the Thornhill Festival every year since 2005 has proved the Green can be shared by all. Plans to develop the Heritage and Tranquil Zones should make users of all ages and backgrounds welcome to enjoy the excellent facilities. It is hoped that these developments will secure Green Flag status for the Green.
